Louis Erard and Konstantin Chaykin Unveil a Third Round of their “Time Eater” Collaboration

Louis Erard and Konstantin Chaykin Unveil a Third Round of their “Time Eater” Collaboration

Louis Erard and Konstantin Chaykin, the only Russian member of the AHCI, have teamed up once again for a new batch of their hit “Time Eater” collaboration. It’s been about two years since their first collaboration, which was an immediate hit for both parties and sold out quickly. A follow up limited edition came a few months later, this one much darker in tone, both in terms of the dial and case, and also the mood of the piece- that bloodshot eye really leaves an impression. For their third release, Chaykin and Louis Erard have returned to their original idea, offering a pair of watches that fans of the original who might have missed out will likely be quite interested in taking a look at when they go on sale in a few days.

The fact that this collaboration exists at all is one of the things we like most about Louis Erard as a brand. They’ve really found a niche in developing limited edition projects with interesting collaborators both in and outside of the watch industry. A watchmaker like Konstantin Chaykin, who has risen to prominence in recent years with his “Wristmons” series of watches, makes watches that are likely out of reach for most collectors. But through Louis Erard, Chaykin, along with watchmakers like Stefan Kudoke and Vianney Halter, brings his design ethos down to earth, making it approachable to enthusiasts who admire his work but would never be able to spend tens of thousands on a single piece.

Together with Louis Erard, Chaykin has essentially developed a new character to inhabit these releases that takes advantage of Louis Erard’s signature Regulator platform. The “Time Eater” creation has a single eye at 12:00 with a rotating pupil that doubles as the hour “hand.” The long central minute hand has a (middle?) finger pointing to the correct minute at one end, with the hand at the other making the rock’n’roll salute. And then there’s the “mouth” at 6:00, the running seconds indicator, so it’s constantly in visible rotation. This is the element of the watch I’ve always personally found most disturbing, but it’s an undeniably great effect. The dial base is a psychedelic wave pattern in gray that underscores the inherent chaos of the design.

Similar to that initial release, there are two watches available as part of this drop, one in 42mm and the other in 39mm. The larger of the two will be sold exclusively through Louis Erard and their retail network and features a blue outer minute ring. The 39mm version will be sold exclusively by Konstantin Chaykin and features a bright red outer minute ring.

Both watches, and all Louis Erard Regulators, use the same movement, a Sellita SW266, which has about 38 hours power reserve on a full wind. They also share a water resistance rating of 50 meters, and a limited edition production number of 178 pieces. The larger watch sold by Louis Erard is mounted to a black toad strap with blue stitching, while the smaller watch sold by Konstantin Chaykin is complemented by a black calf strap. Retail pricing is set at CHF 4,450 for both models. Louis Erard
