Mark Cho’s Ideal Watch Size Survey is Back

Co-founder of The Armoury and permanent resident on my own inspiration board, Mark Cho has once again put out his Ideal Watch Size Survey to the masses. For those unfamiliar, Cho first ran the survey from 2018 to 2021, asking participants about their actual wrist size, how they perceived their wrist size, and what they considered the ideal size for a watch. From this data, Cho and others, including ourselves, were able to glean information about industry trends, but also how those trends seem to affect the way we look at our own bodies. In fact, with nearly 1,000 respondents in the original survey, a significant percentage of people viewed their wrists as smaller than average, while Cho’s findings also pointed toward a growing interest in watches around the 37 to 39mm range (keep in mind, this was a time of Big Watch Supremacy in the marketplace).

As with any data set, one can’t always say, “X equals Y,” but there is an interesting correlation (or is it causation? I always forget from my Statistics class) between what the industry makes, what collectors buy, and what we eventually convince ourselves we can wear. With smaller watches having returned more into the mainstream since Cho’s first survey, it’ll be an interesting comparison to see how tastes and perceptions change over time. Alongside that, Cho’s survey is fairly comprehensive, looking at buying patterns, racial make-ups of survey-takers, and how one wears their watch. All of this, I’d think, would be prime data for a brand to mine for future launches.

The survey is now open until August 10, which you can take here.

Matador Starts Fresh with Their Reinvented Travel Collection

This week, our friends at Matador introduced a reinvented travel collection, replacing their entire line of packs and bags in one new launch. Years in the making, the release brings new materials, hardware, carry systems, and organization across the range, while adding more full-sized travel options to their line-up.

Three of the standout picks from the new collection are the 35L Global Travel Pack, the 18L Personal Travel Pack, and the 2L Lite Sling. The 35L is a carry-on-sized backpack with top and clamshell access, an internal baffle to help manage an overpacked main compartment, and a structured frame and harness for longer travel days. The 18L brings many of those ideas to a smaller format designed around airline personal-item limits, while the 2L Lite Sling can be worn across the body for quick access to smaller essentials when you’re on-the-go or during take-offs and landings. The wider collection is available in several colorways, alongside optional “drip kits” with interchangeable zipper pulls, cords, and other details that let you change up the look of your bag.

The Return of Myspace

I know it’s a common trope for Millennials to wax nostalgically about the early days of the internet, but Myspace really had something special. I learned how to code, I could post angsty bulletins to my friends, one time Colbie Caillat inexplicably put me in her Top Eight for a month. And, let’s not forget, Myspace was never part of the slow erosion of our democracy – I can’t say that about, ahem, other social media companies.

Because of all this, I’m happy to say that the early-aughts relic is gaining traction and has made something of a comeback in recent years. According to Inc., Myspace has grown from around 200,000 users a couple of years ago to roughly 6 million now, with its owners planning a full relaunch built around no algorithm, no endless scroll, and no platform engineered to keep you trapped. Beyond the nostalgia, the author Michael Tasner gets to the heart of what made Myspace appealing in the first place: you had your own little corner of the internet, you could make it look however you wanted, and when someone followed you, you could actually reach them. Who would have thunk people wanted the social part of social media?

Italian Hiking Shoes

I first heard about the Italian shoe brand Scarpa from this GQ article and I haven’t stopped thinking about them since. While I can confidently say I’ve never even considered hiking as a hobby, the gear that goes along with it often toes the line between tactical and extremely fashionable – and a balance I quite like as I begin planning my outfits for Oslo’s fashion week.

As author Leon Hedgepeth shows in styling his fits, Scarpa’s Mojito is extremely versatile. The shoe itself has a slightly athletic feel thanks to its protective rubber toe cap, climbing-inspired lacing, and grippy Vibram outsole, the shape and silhouette is better suited for an everyday look that gets you out of your trusty New Balances and into something a bit more alla moda.

The Thomas Crown Affair Trailer

The trailer for the latest remake of The Thomas Crown Affair has been released, this time with Michael B. Jordan stepping into the lead role, as well as director and producer. For those unfamiliar with the story, Thomas Crown is a wealthy, highly controlled man who pulls off an elaborate art heist and then finds himself in a cat-and-mouse game with the investigator trying to catch him.

Alongside Jordan, the cast also includes a varied (and I mean that in the best way possible) ensemble, including Adria Arjona, Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, and Pilou Asbæk. The release date is set for March 5, 2027.
